VARROA DESTRUCTOR

The inspiration for our art deco bee ring comes from the Asian bee parasite: Varroa destructor. Introduced to the European bee populations by human globalisation, this parasite can lead to the destruction of whole bee colonies. This artwork is not simply a bee resting on a ring shank, rather they merge together to become one. The 18k yellow gold holds an orange-yellow citrine. The delicately cut wings rest atop the tiny legs. These sleek legs flow effortlessly into the intricate honeycomb band, grabbing it tight. On top of the thorax, the varroa mite is visible as a brown oval cut cabochon garnet.
